“Looking without being seen, being surprised while looking: it is on this dichotomy that In Superficie is structured, a story through images that, starting from the myth of Diana and Actaeon, returns to the observer the anatomy of a forbidden gaze, enchanting and baleful at the same time. Just as in the hunt, the dynamics of the voyeuristic action stage two categories of bystanders: the predator and the prey, the latter almost always unaware and unconscious. The consequences of Actaeon’s gesture – who surprises Diana naked as she is about to enter a spring in the woods – are as baleful as they are announced, but not sufficient to curb the morbid curiosity of the young Theban hunter. Suddenly, without any warning, the prey transforms into predator, overturning the roles and questioning every certainty, forcing the observer to ask: what happens when the active subject becomes passive object, when the prey becomes predator?” (Sara Cosimini)
