A poetry collection written and rewritten between 2021 and 2024, among wine bars in various cities and finally completed in a refuge in Valsavarenche, a rugged border region between Aosta Valley, France, and Piedmont in the shadow of the Tau Blanc peak and among the majestic cloud formations of Col du Nivolet.
In this scene reminiscent of “Wanderer above the Sea of Fog,” Emiliano Mondini surrendered to the warmth of a pellet stove, among sheets of plywood, Romanian hostility, and asbestos roofs. A rustic refuge for the body, facing impotence toward life, threatened by the conspiracies of his enemy mind and the dangers of city living. Death, separations, failures, events that have worn down his personality to the limit of the bearable, like bloodthirsty poachers. In the shadow of the mountain, among the clouds of the pass, he dug his Trench, hiding from terror.
